John Hubbell is a historian and director emeritus of the Kent State University Press. He taught in the History Department at Kent State University beginning in 1968 until his retirement in 2002. He also was the editor of the journal Civil War History from 1965 to 2000. Hubbell donated this small collection of papers related to May 4 in 2004.
The John Hubbell Papers span the years 1970 through 1985. They include an address to the Arts and Sciences faculty by Bruce Harkness, the Dean of the College, early in the fall semester of 1970 that Kent State reopened following the shootings. His papers also include summaries on meetings pertaining to whether or not to discontinue ROTC on the Kent campus, and class opinion questions about the Vietnam War, with replies from students.
