Scope and Content

Certain office files of the Kent State University Police Department were kept, presumably for their historical value, in a locked file cabinet in the offices of the University's Legal Affairs until the Fall of 1992 when they were transferred to the University Archives. Initial appraisal of these records revealed that they contained records of some juveniles and victims of crimes. These files were returned to the Office of Legal Affairs for their destruction as that information is considered privileged and would have been destroyed in the normal course of events.

The remaining files have been kept in their original order and divided into appropriate series as follows. Rather than to reorganize all of the subject files into a straight alphabetic order, the several series of subject files are maintained as they were when processed. It was thought by the processor that these distinct subject series had some significance in their placement together.

Material in Series 8 and Series 9 were transferred to the Archives also in 1992 but came from the Police Department directly and not from Legal Affairs.
