Biographical Note
Professor of Mathematical Sciences Frank Smith began his career at Kent State University
in 1969. His research interests include partially-ordered algebras and general topological
spaces. He has traveled and lectured extensively, including international appointments at the
University of Leicester and the University of Bucharest. During the time this collection of
photos of events surrounding the May 4, 1970 tragedy was taken, he was on a teaching
development leave, and living in the city of Kent.
Scope and Content
This collection contains photographs taken around Kent State University campus
and Kent city, during the events associated with the May 4, 1970 tragedy. All
photographs have been digitized and can be viewed by selecting link in inventory
below. Included are images of the burned ROTC building; various images of National
Guard personnel and vehicles on campus; the Pagoda; the Victory Bell; the Drumm
Sculpture, and miscellaneous campus locations.
