Scope and Content
The Richard Myers films were placed with the Department of Special Collections and Archives of Kent State University on 13 February 1984.
Mr. Myers retains all copyrights to the materials. A release is only necessary for reuse, not to view the materials.
Biographical Sketch
Mr. Myers taught film in the Art department at Kent State University, and has now retired. He made films independently since 1960, including two about the May 4th, 1970 shootings at Kent State.
"Confrontation at Kent State," is a documentary about the confrontation between students and the National Guard. Students, faculty, townspeople, and a member of the National Guard were interviewed and asked the same question, "Do you think that the shooting of the students at Kent was justified?." The answers tha they gave form the content of the film. Proceeds from the sales and rental of this film went to student medical and legal aid funds.
"Allison" is a memorial film about Allison Krause, one of the four killed by National Guard gunfire. It was put together from footage Mr. Myers and others had taken of her, unknowingly, during student demonstrations. On the soundtrack, Allison's father, Arthur Krause, reads a poem Peter Davies wrote about her, as well as a letter he sent to President Richard Nixon, which was never answered.

Description of Series
The collection is divided into two series, according to Mr. Myers' film titles:

2 : "Confrontation at Kent State." 1970, 43 mins., B and W, sound.
There are editing notes, such as timing sheets and other technical information, contained inside the film cans.
