Scope and Content

Through the efforts of David Gray and Patricia Burnett, Ohio Labor History Project, and Jerald McElhaney, Business Managerand Financial Secretary of Local 93, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), these records arrived on July 24, 1980, at the American History Research Center, Kent State University.

The IBEW was organized in St.Louis, Missouri, in 1891. Local 93 was founded in East Liverpool, Ohio, prior to 1918 and is affiliated with the American Federation of Labor/Congress of Industrial Organizations. The members of Local 93 are employed by the Electrical Contractors, a company based in East Liverpool which sends out workers to construction sites in the area.

The bulk of this collection consists of bound volumes of minutes and ledgers that cover the years 1918 through 1972. There are, however, short intervals of missing records throughout these records. The remainder of the materials consist of constitutions, bylaws, agreements, and miscellaneous items, primarily form 1950 onward. The materials in these categories have been arranged in chronological order.

This collection, studied in conjunction with other labor records from East Liverpool, should prove of value to the researcher interested in the IBEW itself, labor affairs in East Liverpool, or local history.
