Through the efforts of Patricia Burnette, Ohio Labor History Project, and Ione Marbin, Bookkeeper of Local Union 717, International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers (IUE), these records from Local 730 of the IUE arrived on July 9, 1980, at the American History Research Center, Kent State University.
The members of Local 730 were employed at the Federal Machine and Welder Company, Warren, Ohio, until 1963, when the plant closed down. Most of the employees transferred to another Warren plant, the Mckay Machine Company. In 1964 Local 730 went out of existence since the Mckay Company was a non - union operation.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of correspondence, financial reports, miscellaneous items and minutes covering the years 1948 through 1963. It would be of value to anyone researching the labor history of the Warren area as the minutes go into some detail on contract talks and proposals and other employee-management issues. Individuals interested in local history should consult the records of IUE Local 717, also of Warren, which are more extensive than this collection, and the records of other labor unions in the Youngstown - Warren area.
