The collection consists of Smith's correspondence with family members and
friends, and some manuscript material. Topics include reading, his studies at
Haverford College and personal matters.
The collection, with the exception of two letters, was purchased from Henry
Wenning, New Haven, Conn., in December 1965 and September 1968. The two letters
to Mrs. Margaret Egerton (Jan. 14, 1918 and Mar. 23, 1925) are gifts of Susan
Riley Uhl, Sutton, N.H.
