Historical Note

The primary newsletter for Libraries and Media Services began publication in 1967 and was called Library News until 1972 when it was retitled Kent State University Library News. In Aug. 13, 1973 its name was changed to Kent State University Library Newsletter. From 1976 to 1982 the title was shortened to KSU Libraries Newsletter and the publication incorporated the Director's Council minutes from September 1979 through the Holiday Issue, 1982--the last issue under this title. The newsletter was revived as The Local Data Record beginning in March 1984. This title continued until summer 1997. The primary newsletter of LMS is now Footnotes which began publication in 1991 and continues through the present.

Each department in the library or branches contributed news items for the newsletters acknowledging major goals for the department and personal notes on employees noting job advancements, marriages, births, retirements, deaths or moving in/out of the area. One column that was popular in the Local Data Record was Employee of the Month written by Diane Konoss-Lasson, featuring a different employee each month giving staff members a more personalized view of co-workers and a fun charactization of the employee by graphic designer, Bill Meganhart and then later by Jim Hurguy of the Audio Visual Department.

Scope and Content

The newsletters in this series are arranged in alphabetial order with issue numbers and/or dates held for each title noted. Along with the primary LMS newsletters produced, there are also departmental and specialized newsletters produced within LMS. Many of these newsletters were published within a department in the main library or a branch library for only a short time and then were discontinued. Please note that the Friends of the Libraries Newsletter is found in the Special Collections Publications series.
