Historical Note*

In August of 1983, a group of Ohioans who were interested in books and book collection formed the Northern Ohio Bibliophilic Society, Inc. (NOBS). Book dealers, workers, and collectors, their common interest was in promoting the production, preservation, collection, and sale of fine and antiquarian books, and the preservation and protection of the heritage of the printed word.

Beginning with twelve members in 1983, the Society now has over 300 members. The membership is composed of book dealers, book collectors, librarians, and institutions. NOBS sponsors an annual book fair in Akron and has held fairs in Cleveland and Canton as well. The Society also holds programs of literary interest, publishes a quarterly newsletter for members, an annual directory of member dealers, and an annual publication sent to each member.

Scope and Content

This collection contains the papers and publications of the Northern Ohio Bibliophilic Society. Included are meeting minutes, correspondence, membership directories, annual publications, the NOBS Newsletter, and files relating to NOBS-sponsored book fairs. The materials date from 1983 through 2009. Additional files will be added to this collection as they become available from NOBS.
