Alexander M. Smith, the husband of Evangeline Davey Smith and the son-in-law of Martin L. Davey, served in a variety of positions during what was a rather lengthy career. He was the vice-president of the Lamson and Sessions Company, president and board member of the Davey Tree Expert Company, board member of the American Tool and Machine Company in Boston, Massachusetts, and Director of the Huntington Bank in Kent, Ohio. Alexander also had a number of substantial community roles in the Portage County United Way, the Kent City Chamber of Commerce, the Kent Rotary Club, the Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio, and the United Church of Christ in Kent, Ohio.
The Alexander Smith Collection contains personal correspondence and documentation relating to a variety of subjects, including the Kent Rotary Club, Kent State University affiliations, environmental concerns, historical societies, the United Church of Christ, and the Robinson Memorial Hospital. In addition, one box contains numerous personal awards and plaques. The collection is arranged alphabetically by subject. Within the same subject, items are ordered chronologically.
