Historical Note

The Kiwanis Club of Ravenna, Ohio is a fraternal organization created on April 6, 1921 for the purpose of performing philanthrophic work to benefit the community and society. The club consisted of 65 charter members and was the 454th club to be established by Kiwanis International. Many members have been prominent business owners, political figures, police officers, school principals, and executives. The organization has sponsored scholarships, elderly outreach, and youth programs as part of the club's commitment to commmunity service.


Scope and Content

The collection contains an accumulation of the organizational records, membership histories, and memorabilia of the Kiwanis Club of Ravenna, and was deposited on February 15, 2005 by Robert Winkler, who served as club president from 1988-1989.

The collection is organized by subject and then chronologically beginning with Chapter Bylaws and Official Minutes. Achievement Reports, which range from 1935-1973, reveal the growth of the club along with club history books created in 2003 and 2004. Membership histories cover the dates of 1940 to the present. Charter member histories are documented in fine detail and biographies with photographs are present for those who were members of the organization in 1970. The featured program of the collection is the Travelogue Series, which was a fundraising and programming intitiave led by the club in 1974-1975. Visiting speakers are listed as well as ticket sales and publicity materials for the project. Memorabilia in the collection includes membership pins, awards, photographs, and newspaper clippings.
