Scope and Content

This part of the collection represents the early materials Joseph Chaikin donated to the Department of Special Collections and Archives of Kent State University in 1972. Among these early materials are his correspondence with Sam Shepard, Judith Malina, Julian Beck, Samuel Beckett, Jean-Claude van Itallie, Vanessa Redgrave and Eric Bentley, manuscripts of plays, and his business files for the Other Theater. Joseph Chaikin's later materials and the Papers of Open Theater are also housed in the Department of Special Collections and Archives.
