Historical Note
Blossom Music Center was opened in 1967 by the Musical Arts Association in
Cleveland to serve as a venue for summer concerts of the Cleveland Symphony
Orchestra. A few years later, an affiliation between Blossom and Kent State
University led to the development of a creative venue for the arts that included
the departments of Music, Art and Theatre. The summer curriculum featured student
recitals, artist lectures and specialized programs. Located in Cuyahoga Falls,
Ohio, the Blossom Pavilion lies at the base of a natural bowl, offering excellent
acoustics even on the hillside lawn seating. The pavilion was designed by Peter
van Dijk and seats 5,700 people. Also located on the grounds are the Porthouse
Theatre and Eells Gallery, both affiliated with Kent State.
