Historical Note

The Kent State University Citation and Recognition Committee considers and recommends nominees for honorary degrees and for other special recognition such as the President's Medal and the University Medallion. In addition, the Committee proposes governing criteria for the above honors.

Scope and Content

This collection includes the Committee's requests for nominations, internal Committee correspondence, critera and eligibility for awards, nominee files (including biographical information), ballots, and recipient files (including promotional and ceremonial materials).

Statement of Arrangement

In the first box, the Committee's public requests and internal records are filed first. The awards (Distinguished Service, Distinguished Teaching, President's Medal, and University Medallion) are then ordered alphabetically. For each award, an explanation of the criteria is followed by lists of nominees and lists of recipients. For many nominees and recipients there are individual files which are ordered alphabetically. These files include biographical information. The second box contains the Honorary Degree criteria, lists, and individual nominee and recipient files.

Note: Dates reflect the content of the files, not the date an individual was nominated nor the date an award was conferred. There is a significant difference between the file dates and the dates nominated or conferred for Walton Clarke, Frank Glenn, Bernard Hall, Louis Lane, Paul Pfeiffer, Shannon Rodgers, Richard Schmidt, Howard Vincent, Rose Vormelker, and John Weiser.
