History of Kent State University Stark Campus: The roots of Kent State University Stark Campus (also known as Kent State University at Stark) began in 1946 with Kent State Canton, a university division created to address the sudden surge of college students utilizing the new G.I. Bill. While lack of funding forced this branch to close in 1950, a new Cadet Program emerged, providing extension teacher programs, which eventually merged into the Canton Academic Center. In 1967, Kent State University Stark Campus opened in its current location as a regional branch. Today, Stark Campus is the largest of Kent State University's regional branches and continues to expand while offering associate, baccalaureate, and master degrees.
